Andaman itinerary guide

Andaman 5N/6D itinerary: Port Blair, Havelock and Neil Island.

Five nights and six days is one of the most common Andaman trip lengths. It can work very well for first-time visitors, but only if the island split, ferry timing, stay category and activity days are planned sensibly.

Suggested route

A practical day-by-day 5N/6D plan

Day 1

Arrive in Port Blair

Land at Port Blair, keep the first day light, check in, and visit Cellular Jail or the light-and-sound show if timing allows.

Day 2

Move to Havelock / Swaraj Dweep

Take a morning ferry to Havelock. Keep the afternoon for Radhanagar Beach instead of packing too many transfers into one day.

Day 3

Havelock beach or activity day

Use this day for scuba, sea walking, kayaking or relaxed beach time. Activity slots and weather backup should be planned early.

Day 4

Transfer to Neil / Shaheed Dweep

Move to Neil Island for a quieter island stay. Bharatpur, Laxmanpur and Natural Bridge can fit better with sensible ferry timing.

Day 5

Return to Port Blair

Return from Neil to Port Blair. Keep this night in Port Blair so the departure flight is not dependent on same-day inter-island ferry timing.

Day 6

Departure

Fly out from Port Blair. If your flight is late, add only light local plans and avoid last-minute long transfers.

Ferry planning

Ferries decide whether the itinerary feels smooth or rushed.

The biggest planning mistake is treating ferries like local taxis. Inter-island ferry timings affect hotel check-ins, activity slots, beach time and the safety of your return before the flight. For a 5N/6D trip, the final night in Port Blair is usually the safer choice.

Common mistakes

Avoid these before booking a package.

  • Booking a return flight too close to a same-day ferry transfer.
  • Trying to cover too many islands in only five nights.
  • Ignoring ferry timing while choosing hotel locations.
  • Treating every 5N/6D package as equal without checking stay category and island split.
  • Adding water activities without checking age, comfort, weather and backup options.

When to extend

Choose longer than 5N/6D if you want a slower trip.

Add one or two nights if you are travelling with senior citizens, want a more relaxed honeymoon, need extra activity buffer, or dislike frequent hotel changes. A longer plan can reduce ferry pressure and make the trip feel less like a checklist.
